Helmetless riders hurt in Balasan motorcycle crash

ILOILO – Two motorcycle-riding women sustained injuries after they figured in a road accident in Barangay Poblacion Sur, Balasan town around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, February 3.

The victims were identified as alias “Pearl,” a 22-year-old resident of Barangay Gimamanay, Balasan, and her backrider alias “Jen” from Barangay Camambugan.

Police Captain Renzo Martinez, chief of the Balasan Municipal Police Station, said the pickup truck driven by alias “Jr”, 24, a resident of Barangay Maya, was making a right turn when the motorcycle failed to slow down and hit the rear of the pickup.

Pearl suffered head injuries while Jen sustained a fracture on her left leg. Both were immediately transported to Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City for medical attention. Meanwhile, the pickup driver and his passenger were unharmed.

The crash caused minor damage to the pickup’s rear bumper while the motorcycle sustained significant front-end damage.

Police added that neither of the women was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident./PN
