MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the latest Pulse Asia performance rating, which showed him enjoying an 83 percent approval and trust rating.
“We are grateful for this continued show of public support and confidence to the President,” said Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella.
The survey conducted between Dec. 6 and 11 showed that 5 percent of the 1,200 respondents disapproved of his performance, while 13 percent were undecided.
Only four percent said they do not trust Duterte, according to Pulse Asia. Undecided respondents stood at 13 percent.
Abella said Duterte’s approval and trust rating reflects support for the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, crime and corruption.
“People are now beginning to feel secure in their homes, in the streets, day and night as incidents of homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping went down, according to PNP (Philippine National Police) data,” he said.
The government has also vowed to make the country a “safe” and “comfortable” to live in.
Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III said the high ratings of Duterte reflected the support of Filipinos for change.
“The Pulse Asia survey shows that if you are sincere in helping the people, the people will never leave you, no matter what is said about you,” said Pimentel, an ally of the President.
