BACOLOD City – The No. 1 most wanted person in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental was killed in a gun battle with police officers in Barangay Mandalagan.
Joint elements of the Himamaylan City police station, Bacolod City’s Police Station 3 and Bacolod and Negros Occidental’s Special Weapons and Tactics and Intelligence units were out to serve arrest warrants against Charles Jayson Javelosa of Barangay Aguisan, Himamaylan City.
Javelosa – also the No. 3 top drug personality in Himamaylan – was facing charges for violation of section 28 of Republic Act (RA) 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and sections 11 and 12 of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
He was found at Block 15, Lot 29 of Camella Homes around 9:48 p.m. Friday, a police report showed.
Javelosa’s 27-year-old female companion Regina Gavaran of Barangay San Pedro, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental tried to block the arresting officers.
But the police gained entry by forcibly opening the door. That was when Javelosa fired at them.
The cops retaliated by firing back, hitting Javelosa, who then died on the way to the hospital, said Himamaylan police head Chief Inspector Antonio Benitez Jr.
Gavaran, on the other hand, was detained at the Police Station 3 lockup facility and was facing charges for obstruction of justice and coddling of a wanted criminal.
Recovered from the house were several empty shells, an improvised .45-caliber gun, assorted ammunition, a sachet of suspected shabu, and drug paraphernalia./PN
