BACOLOD City – Mayor Nadie Arceo of Hinigaran, Negros Occidental dissolved the antidrug task force of the municipal police station last week.
Arceo said he created the task force after losing trust in the town’s police station.
Earlier, Arceo requested Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), to replace municipal police chief Senior Inspector Lawrence Bathan.
Arceo accused Bathan of removing the names of drug suspects from their watch list.
Castil did not immediately approve Arceo’s request.
He said he will not relieve Bathan unless the Police Regional Office 18 (PRO-18) or the Philippine National Police national headquarters orders him to do so.
But last month, Bathan was transferred to the Nocppo. Chief Inspector Jake Barilla replaced him.
PRO-18 director Chief Superintendent Edmund Gonzales ordered Bathan’s relief, Castil said.
Arceo said he and Barilla were “now working together to catch big-time drug personalities.”
