ILOILO City – Lawless elements are expected to take advantage of the holiday rush, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has warned.

The ICPO advised the public – especially those going shopping – to beware of snatchers and swindlers.

“Secure your valuables during the Christmas holidays, when crooks are most active,” said Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas.

Avoid wearing jewelry items and bringing expensive valuables, the ICPO director said.

Security across the city will be tightened during the holidays, said Biñas.

There will be a “maximum deployment” of patrol and intelligence officers to watch over establishments, particularly malls and banks, he said.

Biñas also advised security guards everywhere to be on alert and vigilant.

People should lock all entrances and interior doors and windows before leaving their houses to go shopping, said the police official.

All electrical appliances must be unplugged and the main power source switched off to prevent fire, he said.

Aside from jewelry items, portable electronic devices including but not limited to tablet computers, gaming gadgets and smartphones, and other expensive valuables must be kept in a safe place, said Biñas./PN
