BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Mayor Evelio Leonardia urged the Roman Catholic faithful to honor their faith and reflect on the suffering of Jesus Christ as they observe the last days of Lent.
“This is the time to see through His sacrifices and His deepest love for humanity that He offered his life on the Cross,” said Marañon.
The governor also urged the public to “stay safe as you take your break.”
“May this season allow us to reflect on Christ’s struggles by helping spread his teachings and help those needing spiritual guidance in our pursuit to become better people,” said Marañon.
For his part Leonardia urged the barangay captains to “honor its (Holy Week) solemnity and respect the practices of the Christian faith.”
“In doing so, as public servants, we are expected to uphold and maintain the peace and order of our area of responsibility; to keep the surroundings clean; and to caution and remind our constituents to take necessary precautions with regards to their health, especially on days with intense or sweltering heat,” the mayor said in a memo.
Meanwhile City Election Office Mavil Majarucon-Sia announced that work at the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office is suspended “effective 12 noon on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.”
“All employees of the main and field offices whose work schedule is either 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. shall register in the logbook and/or Automated Attendance System the time they left the office, which shall not be earlier than 12 noon of said date,” read part of the April 10 Comelec central office memo Sia posted on Facebook on Tuesday.
On the other hand, employees whose flexi-time schedule is at 7 a.m. may register their departure from work earlier than 12 noon provided that they have rendered at least four continued hours of work.
“The authority to render overtime services for all main office and field office officials and employees is likewise suspended beginning April 12, 2017 and shall resume on April 17, 2017,” the memo read.
Employees at the Comelec’s organic security force; security officers; employees of the Offices of the Election Officer whose satellite registration activities were already scheduled on Saturday, April 15; and those assigned in the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor and the Office of the Regional Election Director, are not covered by the suspension on Black Saturday./PN
