Singer-songwriter Kitchie Nadal is set to make a powerful comeback to the Philippine music scene with her much-awaited first solo concert at the Araneta Coliseum on June 21 — and this milestone comes with stories of how she continued to wave the OPM flag even while living abroad.
During a press conference for her “New Ground Manila” concert on June 9, Nadal, now based in Spain with her husband and two sons, revealed how she made the most of her time overseas as both a full-time mom and a passionate musician.
“Sa Spain kasi I’m a full-time mom so ang pwede ko lang gawin dun is write songs, recording, ‘yung mga ganon,” Nadal sajd.
“Kasi now we can work remotely, we can make our own studio at home. But also I leveraged on my location. Kasi Spain, medyo gitna siya, so I could travel to different countries na less places na napupuntahan ng mga OPM artists like Malta.”
She added, “Nakakagulat may Pinoy pala sa Malta, sa Poland, sa Iceland — so ‘yun yung advantage ko. I leveraged on that.”
Nadal also reflected on how her music evolved with new meaning while abroad.
“Parang nagkaroon ng new purpose ‘yung career ko as an artist over there. ‘Coz I feel ‘pag once binuhay mo ‘yung music scene, nabubuhay mo din ‘yung Filipino community — nabubuhay mo Filipino restaurants, businesses, beauty parlor… so parang I feel ‘yun yung naging purpose ko living in Spain,” she said.
Apart from the concert, Nadal is also set to release a new EP featuring seven tracks — six are re-recorded versions of her early hits, and one is a brand-new song titled “Landas.” (ABS-CBN News)
