Hua Siong advances to Bingawan Cup semis

HUA Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix advanced to the semifinals of the Bingawan Foundation Cup Season 2 High School Basketball Premier Tournament after finishing the elimination round unbeaten.

Reynold Tupas came up with clutch conversions as Red Phoenix escaped with an 84-82 victory over St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets on Monday at the Bingawan National High School gym.

Tupas waxed hot in the final minutes with back-to-back 3-pointers and two free throws to keep the match knotted at 82-all. He then unloaded a go-ahead layup for Red Phoenix to surge for good.

Tupas led the way with 25 points for Red Phoenix (4-0), which will play in the semifinal round on Saturday. Panda Rockets dropped to 3-1 and will be in a knockout quarterfinal match on Friday.

CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights, meanwhile, secured a seat in the quarterfinal round after scoring a 110-69 victory over the also-ran Bingawan National High School.

Lester Valn Paraico made 19 points to lead Silver Knights.
