Cops hunt suspect in robbing gadget store

ILOILO City – Police were searching for a suspect in robbing a cellphone and accessories store in a dormitory building on Delgado Street, Barangay Villa Anita, City Proper.

City Dorm receptionist Lowela Cezar identified the suspect as Jaylord John Ignacio, 23, of Barangay Tigbauan Road, Cabatuan, Iloilo, a police report showed.

Ignacio, who rented Door 217 of the dormitory, carted away three plastic bags of various items from Gadget Headz store, Cezar told the police.

The 38-year-old receptionist caught Ignacio inside the store at around 2:32 a.m. on June 11.

Cezar got suspicious and looked for the key to close the building’s main door but failed.

She grappled with Ignacio in an attempt to stop him but the latter pushed her and escaped, Cezar told the police.

Footage from a security camera in the building showed that Ignacio used a kitchen knife to destroy the store’s door grills and the lock of the aluminum-and-glass door at around 1:10 a.m., police said.

He managed to enter the store at around 2:18 a.m., grabbed various gadgets from the display racks and placed them in three plastic bags, police said.

Investigators found in Ignacio’s rented room receipts from M. Lhuillier Pawnshop and Jewelry, Cebuana Lhuillier Pawnshop and Palawan Express Pera Padala bearing his name, and an identification card, among other personal belongings.

Police have yet to arrest the suspect as of this writing.

Gadget Headz has yet to determine the cost of the stolen items as well. It was still inventorying its products as of this writing. (Christine Lorraine Gallo, Intern/PN)
