MANILA – Collegiate teams in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) can now start conducting sports training, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.
Roque on Monday announced that the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has given the green light to collegiate student-athletes to resume their practices.
The Palace spokesperson, however, said that the collegiate training would be subject to the guidelines to be released by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at a later date.
“Pinapayagan na po ng IATF ang training ng collegiate student-athletes para sa GCQ and MGCQ areas,” said Roque. “Training [would] be subject to the guidelines to be released by CHED.”
The latest order by the IATF-EID is seen as a welcome development for schools and colleges participating in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and theNational Collegiate Athletic Association.
The task force’s approval came on the heels of the controversial “Sorsogon Bubble” of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers at former head coach Aldin Ayo’s place at Barangay Capuy in Sorsogon City.
Prior to this development, the IATF-EID earlier allowed the gradual return in training of the Philippine Basketball Association and Philippines Football League./PN
