BACOLOD City – For alleged illegal fishing, a 37-year-old man was arrested in Barangay Tagda, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

The suspect was identified as Joever Masuela of Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran.

Masuela did not have a mayor’s permit, while his fishing boat was not registered, in violation of a municipal ordinance on fishing, the Hinigaran police station said.

Bantay Dagat personnel led by Senior Inspector Jerald Muya were conducting seaborne patrol in Barangay Tagda on May 24 when they caught M/B Lance engineered by Masuela.

Police identified the vessel owner as Otie Aguilar of Barangay Gargato.

A fishing trawl net was seized from Masuela. It was turned over to the Municipal Agriculture Office./PN
