ILOILO City – Four residents of Barangay Guinticgan, Carles, Iloilo were arrested for alleged illegal fishing.
Merson Mercurio, 41, Tony Barredo, 35, Fred Ducanes, 34, and Ronnel Dadula, 25, were charged with violation of Republic Act 8550, or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998, specifically using explosives in fishing, a police report showed.
Police served them an arrest warrant and brought them to the municipal police station where they were detained around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Judge Oscar Leo Billena of the Regional Trial Court Branch 66 (Barotac Viejo) issued the warrant and set the bail at P20,000 for each suspect.
Also in Carles, a fisherman was facing charges for alleged illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Judie Flores of Barangay Bancal was arrested around 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 25. He was taken to the Carles police station.
Officers searched his house on the strength of a warrant issued by Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court Branch 66.
They recovered a 9mm pistol with 23 live bullets, three bullets for a shotgun, a plastic ammunition holder, and a black sling bag./PN
