Iloilo City cracks down on smoking with tougher penalties for violators

ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force (ICAST) is intensifying its efforts to enforce the city’s Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance, ensuring stricter compliance in public areas, streets, and schools.

The ordinance also bans tobacco advertising, promotions, and sponsorships within the city.

As schools reopen, the taskforce has been visiting educational institutions to remind students of the ordinance.

Penalties for individuals caught smoking or vaping in restricted areas are as follows:

* First offense – P1,500 fine and/or three days imprisonment

* Second offense – P2,000 fine and/or five days imprisonment

* Third offense – P5,000 fine and/or 10 days imprisonment

Business establishments that violate the ordinance will face the following penalties:

* First offense – P5,000 fine

* Second offense – One-month suspension of business permit

* Third offense – Revocation of business permit

For businesses with a capital of less than P5,000, penalties include:

* First offense – P1,000 fine

* Second offense – P2,000 fine

* Third offense – P5,000 fine or imprisonment not exceeding five days, or both, at the court’s discretion/PN
