ILOILO City – This capital city will host the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) national convention for the first time.

The four-day event themed “upholding the rule of law in period of great change” will begin today at the Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) in Mandurriao district.

Around 3,000 lawyers from across the country are expected to attend the convention which is now on its 17th year.

“This is the time nga ang mga lawyers ma-bonding…Indi lang siling nga puro away lang sa korte. Amo na ni ang time nila,” said Atty. Leo S. Sombiro, outgoing IBP – Iloilo Chapter president.

Aside from talks, sports activities like basketball, volleyball, badminton, and billiards are also set for the convention.

Female lawyers will also participate in a cheer dance contest, a fashion show competition, and the Miss IBP 2019 pageant.

“We are very happy nga ginpili kita nga mangin host or venue. Here (Iloilo City), our participants will experience the Ilonggo unique hospitality as well as delicious Ilonggo delicacies,” said Sombiro.

The IBP convention is a chance to promote tourism in the city and province, he added.

A trade exhibit featuring 36 accredited local and national entrepreneurs will be staged at the ICC.

A refresher course, dubbed as the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education, will also be taken by the participants.

“The Mandatory Continuing Legal Education will update our lawyers regarding recent laws and jurisprudence,” said Sombiro.

There will also be a fun run. It will begin at 5:30 a.m. on March 30 at SM Southpoint.

It has three categories – the 10k, 5k and 3k run – and is open to all with a P300 registration fee./PN
