ILOILO Coty – The city government here is encouraging more Ilonggos to take advantage of the free influenza vaccination available at the Iloilo City Health Office (CHO).
As of Dec. 11, 47,000 individuals have benefited from the program.
“I urge everyone in Iloilo City, whether you are working, conducting business, or studying, to get vaccinated with the flu vaccine. I strongly implore companies, schools, and other government offices to actively coordinate with our City Health Office for mass vaccination drives,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said yesterday.
He said that amid the accomplishment, they needed to reach more for the city’s “collective protection.”
The CHO, headed by Dr. Annabelle Tang, said the vaccine is especially recommended for senior citizens, pregnant women already five months and above, people living with human immunodeficiency virus, healthcare and frontline workers.
It is also open for individuals with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung disease, heart failure, and cancer.
“The influenza vaccine helps protect against flu symptoms such as fever, chills, fatigue, muscle and body aches, vomiting and diarrhea. Older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of severe complications with the flu,” said the CHO.
The vaccines are available in the health center in every district and at the CHO on the 2nd floor of the Iloilo City Hall.
The vaccination started on Nov. 24 and will be available until supplies last. (PNA)
