ILOILO City – Mayor Raisa Treñas has thrown Iloilo City’s support behind a nationwide movement of local leaders committed to stamping out corruption and strengthening transparency, officially joining the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) coalition that now counts over 100 local government units across the country.
Formed in August 2023 at the University of the Philippines Diliman, M4GG unites reform-driven mayors under a shared pledge to uphold ethical leadership, citizen participation, equitable development, and streamlined public services.
Convenors include Baguio City’s Mayor Benjamin “Benjie” Magalong, Quezon City’s Mayor Joy Belmonte, Marikina City’s Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro, Dumaguete City’s Mayor Felipe Remollo, Isabela City’s Mayor Sitti Hataman, Kauswagan City’s Mayor Rommel Arnado, and Pasig City’s Mayor Vico Sotto.
Treñas said Iloilo City’s membership reflects its long-standing principle of people-centered governance.
“This allows us not only to share our best practices but also to learn from other cities and municipalities, ensuring that public resources are managed responsibly, and every Ilonggo benefits from honest and compassionate governance,” she stressed.
To professionalize the alliance, M4GG has tapped accounting firm SGV to provide governance training for mayors, further reinforcing its thrust to enhance transparency and efficiency in local government.
“Good governance is not merely a guiding principle, it is a solemn duty to our people. Through M4GG, Iloilo City continues to build a future grounded in integrity, collaboration, and the shared aspiration for a better tomorrow,” Treñas added./PN
