Iloilo City suspends classes today for Iglesia nat’l rally

ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas has issued Executive Order No. 005-A, suspending face-to-face classes at all levels within the city today, January 13.

The suspension aims to ensure public safety and reduce traffic disruptions for the “National Rally for Peace”.

The rally, organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo, will take place at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Authorities expect a significant number of participants (30,000 Iglesia ni Cristo members and 1,000 vehicles), prompting road closure (Muelle Loney Street) and heightened security measures.

Under the executive order, respective school heads are encouraged to implement alternative modes of learning during the suspension.

Meanwhile, operations at Iloilo City government offices will continue uninterrupted. However, national government agencies and private offices are strongly advised to adopt skeletal workforce arrangements or temporarily suspend operations.

Mayor Treñas emphasized that the suspension was enacted to prioritize the welfare of students and the community.

“This is for the safety and convenience of everyone attending the rally and for the general public,” said Mayor Treñas./PN
