CENTERPHIL Montessori cagers defeated University of San Agustin Golden Eagles 81-69 in the 1st Governor’s Cup Regional Invitational Championships semifinals yesterday at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.
Lester Valn Paraico top-scored for Silver Knights with 19 points, including four 3-point conversions, while Ian Gasacao, Ronald Silorio and Jedrick Sean Tigres also provided offensive spark.
Silver Knights had a strong start on outside hits by Paraico, Tigres and Silorio to build a double-digit lead at the half. Golden Eagles tried to rally back but Silver Knights had answers to thwart the run.
Mentored by Andee Ticson, Silver Knights was set to face the winner of the Hercor College-Iloilo South semifinals match in the knockout finals.
“We are still a win away from where we desire to be,” said CenterPhil owner Mark Plagata Palabrica. “We hope to display the same intensity in the finals.”
Silver Knights remained undefeated in the tournament. It beat Iloilo National High School (114-65) and Iloilo South Selection (71-66) in their group matches.
Hercor College secured a semifinals seat with a 74-62 victory over Mandurriao National High School on Sunday to bounce back from a close 80-81 defeat to Iloilo Warriors earlier in the day./PN
