ILOILO City – Thirty high-rise buildings in this city have met the minimum fire safe requirements of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), according to Fire Senior Superintendent Jerry Candido, city fire marshal.
A building at least 15 meters tall is already considered high-rise, said Candido.
On June 14 fire struck a high-rise residential building in London. Fifty-eight people were confirmed to have died in the blaze but the London police warned the number could still rise.
In Iloilo City, Candido said 30 buildings have a “standard fire system” consisting of a red-painted cabinet containing a fire hose, nozzle, fire extinguisher, fire alarm system and related fire equipment, said Candido.
They also have automatic fire sprinkler systems, automatic fire alarm systems, and fire exit doors.
Candido identified the buildings as follows:

The London high-rise fire was believed to have started on the fourth floor of the 24-storey tower block in the early hours of Wednesday morning before spreading up the building via the cladding on the external walls.
Residents were forced to flee down the central staircase with many being left behind in the chaos. Many others were unable to leave their flats due to the thick black smoke filling the corridors./PN
