TO DEVELOP Ilonggo basketball coaches, the Iloilo City Sports Council will hold a two-day Free General Coaching Course for Basketball on Aug. 20 and 21.
The coaching course, which is in partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission, will be held at La Paz district gym on from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 20 and at the Iloilo Sports Complex gym from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Aug. 21.
“We are inviting interested Ilonggos to join us,” City Sports Development Division head Rommel Castro said. “This coaching course aims to upgrade the skills of our basketball coaches here. Novice coaches will also be taught the proper way of being a coach.”
Louie Gonzales, assistant coach of the reigning UAAP men’s seniors basketball champions De La Salle University Green Archers, will lead the two-day coaching course.
Green Archers will play in an exhibition match against Sky Cable-Iloilo as part of the 80th Iloilo City Charter Day celebration.
“We expect coach Louie to give valuable insights during the coaching course. I am sure he will also share the secrets to why the DLSU Green Archers is the dominant team in the UAAP now,” said Castro.
The coaching clinic is also part of the Train the Trainers Program of the Philippine Sports Institute, he added.
