MANILA – Iloilo Kisela Knights and Negros Kingsmen swept their two matches in the 2022 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Third Conference on Wednesday night.
The Kisela Knights stayed on top of Southern Division standings with a 16-2 win-loss slate following a 14-7 victory over Isabela Knight of Alexander and a 17-4 rout of Cavite Spartans.
Iloilo faltered in the blitz against Isabela, 3-4, but bounced back with a 11-3 win in rapid game behind two points by Cesar Mariano (Board 1), Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 4), Fritz Porras (Board 5) and Rolly Parondo Jr. (Board 6), and a split by Mark Jossel Mariano (Board 7).
The Kisela Knights dominated Cavite in the blitz game, 6-1, with one point each from Porras (Board 1), Ochoa (Board 2), Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3), Antonio (Board 4), Parondo (Board 5) and John Michael Silvederio (Board 6).
The Ilonggos also prevailed over the Spartans in the rapid game, 11-3, with full two points each by Ochoa, Mejia, Antonio, Silvederio and Cesar Mariano (Board 7) and a split by Porras.
The Kingsmen, on the other hand, stayed at third place in the Southern Division with its 17-3 record following a 14.5-6.5 beating of Quezon City Simba’s Tribe and 13-8 win over Isabela Knight of Alexander.
Negros turned back Quezon City in blitz event, 5.5-1.5, with one point each by David Elorta (Board 1), Bernadette Galas (Board 3), Edmundo Gatus (Board 4), Ellan Asuela (Board 5) and Edsel Montoya (Board 7) and a split by Mari Turqueza (Board 2).
The Kingsmen also edged the Simba’s Tribe in the rapid game, 9-5, with Elorta, Galas, Gatus and Montoya all submitting two points each, while Turqueza settled for a split with his opponent.
The Kingsmen barely escaped the Knight of Alexander in the blitz game, 4-3, with Elorta, Brylle Arellano (Board 2), Galas and Asuela garnering full one point each.
The Negrenses, however, dominated Isabela in the rapid game, 9-5, on two-points each by Elorta, Arellano, Galas and Montoya and a split point by Asuela./PN
