ILOILO made a push in the Visayas leg of the Batang Pinoy on Tuesday night with two arnis athletes contributing six gold medals in Dumaguete City.
Nathaniel Balajadia won three in elementary boys’ 7-8 years old category. Jerome Abello had the same number of golds in the secondary.
Roj Miguel Haro and Scyros Gardose bagged a silver medal each in pencak silat while Joseph Tacapan settled for bronze. Rare Hartha de Anas also contributed a bronze in karatedo.
Iloilo currently had 15 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals from arnis (10-9-13 gold-silver-bronze), pencak silat (5-6-3) and karatedo (0-0-1). The Ilonggos were still expected to raise their medal haul when taekwondo begins.
Aklanon swimmer Jennuel Boon de Leon chipped in two more gold medals after ruling the boys 12 and Under 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly at the Lorenzo G. Teves Aqua Center.
Bacolod City, meanwhile, continued to take home gold medals in athletics. Bea Delotavo topped the 100m hurdles and Klyde Montalvo ruled the 2000m walkathon.
For claiming the overall championship in swimming, Aklan moved up to fourth place in the medal tally with 14 gold, eight silver and five bronze medals, while Bacolod had 12 gold, eight silver and 13 bronze medals./PN
