ILOILO City can soon expect additional tour guides by December due to the Tour Guiding Seminar Workshop which was organized by the Association of Iloilo DOT-Accredited Travel and Tour Operators (IDATTO) and the Department of Tourism (DOT).
The special training workshop began in September and is expected to end by December this year. It consists of 25 meetings, conducted twice per week, on weekends.
Roy Gatpatan, vice president of IDATTO, said this seminar workshop was established due to Iloilo City’s need for additional tour guides and cites the city’s growing tourism and travel industry as the primary cause of tour guide shortage in the city as well as other areas throughout Western Visayas.
Gatpatan added that around 40 attendees have participated in the Tour Guiding Seminar Workshop and these participants and trainees were given “standard DOT training for tourguides, but with a special emphasis on Western Visayas, and the local tourism industry.”
The seminar teaches communication skills, tourism information about Western Visayas, and how to represent Iloilo.
When asked about future training seminars and workshops, Gatpatan explained that tour guide training programs are only conducted when new tour guides are required, and are usually sponsored by tourism organizations that require new talent./PN
