Ilongga Brooks nets 2 more golds

ILONGGA Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks bucked injury scare to take home two more gold medals in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet on Tuesday at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City.

The Leon, Iloilo native captured her second gold in the secondary girls 100-meter hurdles with 15.07 seconds before also ruling the long jump event with 5.90 meter leap.

Brooks, who captured a gold medal in the secondary girls high jump on Monday afternoon, will have a shot on her fourth gold in the Palarong Pambansa qualifier in the 4×100 meter relay on Friday.

Justine Manantan also delivered a gold for the Iloilo when he ruled the elementary boys 100 meter dash, while Lorraine Mae Gumbai had a silver in elementary girls 100-meter hurdles and Therence Zapatos had bronze in elementary boys 100-meter dash.

Negros Occidental also nabbed gold in athletics with Trexie Dela Torre and Julian Pranisa having gold-silver finish in secondary girls 100-meter dash and Bernalyn Bejoy and Ciara Largavista netting gold-bronze in secondary girls 800-meter dash.

Also winning gold for Negros were June Philip Martinez (shot put), Joshua Sevilla (110-meter hurdles), Keven Candazo (high jump), Jamela de Asis (shot put), Lyndon Huelar (shot put), Althea Bayalas (high jump), and Chris Ann Dayanan (800-meter run).

Winning silver for the Negrense tracksters were Reniel Gustillo (110-meter hurdles), Athleia Jason (800-meter run) Andic Lladoc (high jump) and Jennifer Hudierez (100-meter hurdles).

Host Capiz also make its presence felt in athletics with gold medals from its elementary bets Christian Mendoza (800-meter run), Niño Christian Celis (discus throw) and Jasmine Jamelarin (100-meter hurdle) and a bronze from Miles Buenafe (high jump).

Aklan, meanwhile, added three gold medals to its collection from Christian Paul Tiongson in secondary boys 800-meter dash, Archie Sarabia in secondary boys discus throw and Hughene Lachica in secondary boys high jump. Sarabia also have a silver in shot put, while Kenjie Dizon netted bronze in 110-meter hurdles.

The Iloilo Province also showed its dominance in boys and girls wrestling by taking home a total of 12 gold and three silver medals, while Aklan finished with four golds and 12 silvers.

The Ilonggos also got gold medals in secondary table tennis from girls team of Clarice Thalia Gomez, Ann Nicole Olivia, Levee Marie Olivia and Jan Ashley Vicencio and boys team of John Romel Baria, Rem Caoyonan, J Allan Noel Gayoso, and Joshua Chavez.

Brix Jaque also won gold for Iloilo in secondary boys arnis, while Ilonggo Allen Geronimo ruled the individual single weapon over Negros Jerald Macahilig and Guimaras Mark Ardiente.

Negros Occidental also won gold in arnis from Jean Villadas and Julieanne Oberes, silvers from Jasper Pangcobilla, Oberes, Zyne Gonzales, Jhounalou Micoyco and bronze from Lexsiel Rublico and Lordzianver Tumabing./PN
