ILOILO City – Ilonggas Pamela Marquillero and Berna Luz Talaron notched their second gold medals each in the continuation of the 24th University Games athletics at the Iloilo Sports Complex here.


The Pavia, Iloilo native Marquillero of the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses’ track and field team netted her second gold medal by ruling the women’s 110-meter hurdles.


Marquillero also added a silver medal to her collection in the women’s 100-meter dash; her schoolmate Talaron captured her second gold medal with her 12.61 seconds clocking.


Marquillero, a former standout of Iloilo Sun Yat Sen High School, said she was inspired and motivated to give her best in the competition as she was playing in her hometown.


“Kailangang mag-dominate sa hometown,” Marquillero told Panay News. “Iba pa din siyempre ‘yung you are playing in front of your fellow Ilonggos. Also, playing at ISC brought back memories.”


Both Marquillero and Talaron won their first gold medal on Tuesday in the women’s 4×200 meter relay with Ilongga Elvy Villagoniza and Negrense Jessa Mae Jarder.


Jie Anne Calis also delivered two gold medals for UST’s track and field team in the 1500 meter and 800 meter dash, while Feiza Jane Lenton nabbed bronze medal in 800 meters./PN
