Ilonggos win 16 medals in nat’l taekwondo tilt

MANILA – Iloilo City-based taekwondo jins took home a total of 16 medals in the 2019 National Age-Group Taekwondo Championships at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.


The Ilonggo jins, who were from the Iloilo MVP Taekwondo Gym of head coach Denmark Pinggol, captured seven golds, four silver and six bronze medals in the two-day event on Sept. 8.


Angela Joy Bermejo won a gold in kyorugi juniors division, Jhed Anthony Morata in kyorugi cadet division, Sheine Nicole de Asis in kyorugi elementary division, and Kate Sheevanie Santocildes also from kyorugi.


Janna Lucelle Ledesma, Mikan Wynn Cerbo and Juliana Martha Uy, meanwhile, also captured gold medals in poomsae events.


Bagging silver medals, on the other hand, were James Gabriel Dionio, Nina Pearl Acosta and Virgilio Tenafrancia III in kyorugi and Shanen Anica Feranco in poomsae.


Taking home bronze medals for the Ilonggos were Quinn Rea Jimenez, Shernon Gabriel Galupar, Roivic John Decafe and the poomsae squad of Cyd Edryc Esmana, Clyde Anthony Chua and Roivic Decafe./PN
