ILOILO City – The city government’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu disclosed that three groups were courting him to join them and run for city councilor in next year’s midterm elections.
His curt reply: “Wala ako sang tiempo nga maminsar parti pulitika (I have no time to think about politics).”
“I even hardly have time for myself anymore. I work even on Sundays,” said Conlu.
The PSTMO chief was reacting to reports that his visibility likely had political undertones. He lamented that the hard work people in government do were sometimes given political color.
His focus right now, said Conlu, is on how to improve the work of his office that tasked to, among others, maintain traffic order.
Conlu also dismissed comments he better resign if he could not do his job well. He won’t, he stressed.
Conlu recently said it was not true that Regulation No. 2002-246 which prohibited the entry of trucks to the city was not being enforced by the PSTMO.
The Traffic Management Division (TMD) which was under the PSTMO was apprehending trucks defying the ordinance, said Conlu.
City Administrator Hernando Galvez had said Regulation No. 2002-246, promulgated in 2002 yet, was never implemented, citing the presence of trucks on the city’s streets.
Under the ordinance, only trucks with the “Truck Ban Stickers” are allowed entry.
The ordinance was enacted to ease traffic congestion in the city.
“It doesn’t mean nga kon may nakita ka nga truck nga nakasulod sa syudad, failure na ang aton pag-implement sang ordinansa,” said Conlu.
He cited as example the presence of garbage on the streets.
“Kon may makita nga basura sa kilid dalan, failure na ang aton General Services Office? I totally disagree nga failure ang aton pag-implement sang aton ordinance,” said Conlu./PN
