ISA Power Mic 2020: A Series of Short Talks

ILOILO Scholastic Academy pioneered a major public speaking event in a form of a TED TALK for Grade 11 learners on Feb. 28, 2020 at SM City Iloilo, Iloilo City.

All 25 Grade 11 learners of ISA delighted the audience and mall shoppers of SM City Iloilo with their own speeches that center on a variety of ideas, rich sharing of experiences, and stirring words related to academics, values, environment, spirituality, social issues, and life in general.

Dr. Nestor Paul M. Pingil gives his Keynote Speech

Dr. Nestor Paul M. Pingil, Education Program Supervisor II, English from the Department of Education Regional Office VI graced the event as the guest speaker and the chief judge. He addressed to the Grade 11 learners, “Public Speaking is a 21st century skill and mastering this 21st century skill is a must because I know that you will become the leaders, managers, and game changers of the society.”

Esperval Cazhar H. Cadiao, Grade 11 English facilitator and event organizer gives his welcome remarks

Mr. Esperval Cezhar H. Cadiao, a three-time national champion, an international research presenter, and a product and advocate of public speaking was the brain behind this event. He also serves as the English facilitator of the Grade 11 learners. Mr. Cadiao mentioned, “I came up with this idea because as a product and advocate of public speaking, I want to impart to my learners the fulfillment of being able to overcome fear and thoroughly articulate ideas on stage in front of a huge crowd. He added, “Iloilo Scholastic Academy Senior High School is committed to ensuring that the learners do not limit themselves in learning inside the classroom but also learning real life skills that would pave the way for a productive and successful college and professional life.”

During the awarding, the top 3 best speakers were recognized: 3rd place – Joelian Marie Dolendo on her topic: “The Principle in Virtue and Excellence”; 2nd place – Kate Isabelle Artieda on her topic: “Let Your Light Shine Out”; 1st place – Vincent Villanueva on his topic: “Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Vincent received an almost perfect score from the judges.

Grade 11 ISA parents and faculty and staff also joined the event which ended with group and individual photo opportunities.

Mrs. Galan, a Grade 11 parent, said, “It was such a brilliant idea that compelled of all them to stand on stage and speak in public. I, with the other parents, were surprised on how articulate they all have become.”/PN
