ILOILO City – To help people find boardinghouses easily, Information Technology (IT) students of Western Institute of Technology (WIT) created an application incorporating all accredited boardinghouses in the metropolis.
They presented their project at the recent KAhublagan sa BArangay para sa LApnagon nga KAhandaan sa KAlamidad (KABALAKA) technology meeting at city hall as they sought inputs to further improve the application.
Dubbed the “Iloilo City Boardinghouse Finder,” the internet application – which can be accessed via desktop computers and mobile devices such as cell phones and tablet computers – shows a list of boardinghouses with government-issued permits and certifications for the safety and security of boarders.
“Iloilo City is the center for education and employment in Western Visayas. It attracts people from the neighboring provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras, thus students and employees seek abodes in the city. Boardinghouses are an essential demand,” said K6 Gabiota, one of the application’s creators.
The application shows boardinghouse amenities, costs and reviews, thus eliminating the arduous process of searching for a desired place to rent and unnecessary onsite visits for inquiries, Gabiota explained.
After further improvements, the application will be turned over to city government’s Boarding House Commission (BHC). It will help the agency manage data gathered from boardinghouse owners and operators.
Data will include personal business information, certifications and permits with their validity periods, time of renewal, dates of inspections, and violations made.
Gabiota said once the boardinghouse owners and operators have completely registered and passed BHC’s compliance, they will be added to the list in the application.
Boardinghouse owners and operators will be given usernames and passwords to access their accounts. They can add information of their business such as photos and pricing. Once they received a notification for renewal, they will be given one month to comply with the requirement to retain their names on the list. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
