ILOILO City – Just weeks after the completion of a P77.29-million rehabilitation, the Gen. Luna–Jalandoni Flyover is again partially shutting down for another month, raising fresh concerns over the quality and completeness of the months-long upgrade.
The flyover is undergoing nightly closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for 30 calendar days starting February 17 to address deficiencies flagged during post-rehabilitation inspections.
The Jalandoni Flyover is a critical artery linking major roads near the University of San Agustin and the City Proper, making it one of Iloilo City’s busiest traffic corridors.
According to the Iloilo City Traffic and Transportation Management Office (ICTTMO), the renewed closure follows joint inspections conducted on January 18 and February 4, where authorities identified issues that must be corrected before the project’s formal acceptance and turnover.
The flyover recently underwent a major rehabilitation project implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), with repair works beginning in late September 2025 and targeted for completion by January 2026.
The four-month renovation covered asphalt overlay replacement, installation of non-skid roadway materials, repair of expansion joints, bolt tightening, repainting, and structural upgrades.
Traffic officials said the additional temporary closure is necessary to ensure the structure meets safety and quality standards before it is fully turned over for regular use.
Motorists have been advised to expect slower traffic flow in nearby areas and to take alternative routes during nighttime hours while corrective works continue.
Authorities are urging public patience as final works are completed to ensure the long-term durability and safety of the infrastructure./PN
