MANILA – After failing to find his mark in their first two games, James Yap was working double-time to regain his shooting form for Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the PBA Philippine Cup.
The Escalante City, Negros Occidental native forward was held scoreless in three attempts in Painters’ 92-89 win over TNT KaTropa on Dec. 23, 2017 while he finished with 5 points on 2-of-12 shooting in their 87-92 loss to Blackwater Elite on Dec. 29.
Yap, a two-time PBA Most Valuable Player awardee, claimed he was now free from any injuries and working double-time during the long holiday break to better his condition and regain his shooting touch.
“Pakundisyon muna ulit because medyo out of shape pa tayo,” he said. “Ginamit naman na ako ni coach pero wala pa talaga sa timing. Masama lang. Feeling ko sobrang sama talaga ng laro ko.”
“Ganoon talaga, ’pag masama ang laro, isipin mo dapat kung ano iyong kulang, dagdagan ang conditioning at kalimutan na ito. Kasi kung lagi mong iisipin, hindi siya makakatulong,” he added.
The former University of the East Red Warriors star had been struggling to find consistency since being traded to Painters by Star Hotshots (now Magnolia Pambansang Manok) for Paul Lee last year.
“Mabuti na rin siguro itong mahabang break. Makakatulong ito para mabalik natin ang shooting natin,” Yap said. “Huwag lang kumain ng kumain ng lechon. Tuloy lang ang workout.”/PN
