MANILA – Merlito Sabillo will aim for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) light flyweight belt when he faces off with defending champion Edward Heno on Feb. 17 in Bacolod City.
If he succeeds, the native of Toboso, Negros Occidental will wield his second title in the light flyweight division. He currently dons the Asean Boxing Federation (ABF) belt.
Sabillo, a former WBO world minimumweight champion, said he is determined to score an impressive win against Heno in the hope of boosting his rankings for a possible world title fight.
“It is important that I win this fight,” said the 33-year-old Negrense.
Sabillo will parade an impressive 27-4-1 win-loss-draw record, including 13 victories by way of stoppages.
He won his two matches last year against Indonesian Jack Amisa and Crison Omayao.
On the other hand, the Baguio City native Heno has an unblemished record of 11-0-5. Five of his victories came by the way of knockouts, including the last three.
The 25-year-old is defending the OPBF title for the first time since capturing it at the expense of Japanese fighter Seita Ogido in September last year in Nakagami, Japan./PN
