Jasmine calls for action to protect the environment

JASMINE Curtis-Smith took to social media to lament of local environmental crisis after coming across heaps of trash in a secluded island in Palawan recently.

On Instagram, the 25-year-old actress said that she was peacefully strolling along the shores of Culion and admiring the quiet afternoon when she suddenly reached an area littered with piles of rubbish, most of which were plastic waste.

“I’ve only spent a couple of days here but I know their locals are respective of their own island, they keep their roads, waters and surroundings clean. So, I’d like to ask you all…Do you throw your trash properly? Have you seen the Manila Bay problem?” she said.

“This is not isolated to well-known beaches and ports… and it’s so unfortunate. No matter where it’s from, the fact that it can casually wash up on our shores is so saddening,” she added.

Jasmine said that the alarming situation should serve as an eye-opener for everybody to be more conscious and considerate towards the environment.

“I hope we can be disciplined for the future. I hope we all wake up every day conscious of how we go about our every move, including disposing of trash. Kahit na candy wrapper lang yan, kahit na pwet ng yosi lang yan, kahit na ano pa yan. Ang basura dapat sa basurahan, hindi sa kalsada o sa dagat,” she said.

“Let’s learn to love our mother Earth. Pick up trash whenever and wherever you can. Pocket it ‘til you can bin it,” she added.

Jasmine is currently in Culion to shoot her upcoming historical drama film of the same name. (Push)
