Act of God…
THE GOOD Lord indeed works in mysterious ways. He/She, as the case maybe depending on your leanings and political correctness, has this uncanny way of bringing you down to earth at the right moment when your airiness gives you an illusion that you’re at par with Him.
A case in point is the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines or CBCP, particularly its former president Archbishop Socrates Villegas, the nuns of St. Scholastica’s College of Manila and the priests of Ateneo de Manila, and probably a good number of priests and nuns in the Philippines.
These priests and nuns have been lambasting the “drug war” of President Rodrigo Duterte and the declaration of martial law in Mindanao but are deathly silent over the crimes committed by drug addicts and drug lords, including the atrocities committed by the ISIS-wannabe Maute Group who laid siege on Marawi City.
Archbishop Socrates Villegas came out with pastoral letters against President Duterte during the elections. He even told his flock not to vote for him while the nuns of St. Scholastica’s College of Manila headed by their president, Sister Mary Frances Dizon, required their elementary students to demonstrate against President Duterte.
Of course, the natives of these islands are fully aware that they are doing this not for love of country but because they don’t like Rodrigo Duterte (hate is such a strong word). He is not disente enough for them.
I suppose jailed “sexual predator” and illegal drugs protector Leila “frailties of a woman” de Lima is disente enough for them as she was last seen holding hands with the nuns during one of their rallies against Duterte.
It got to the point that every time the word “rape” was mentioned by President Duterte, whether in a “Visayan street parlance” used as a parallel to stress a point or out of context, immediately these priests and nuns would rain fire and brimstone plus eternal damnation against Duterte.
Come to think of it, President Rodrigo Duterte has never raped anyone nor actually ordered any policeman or soldier to rape anyone.
Until a few days ago these priests and nuns have been feeling infallible, the epitome of good moral and upright Catholics in fact more popish than the Pope. Lo and behold, like a bolt of lightning straight from heaven, this has to happen and moi calls it “an act of God.”
Monsignor Arnel Lagarejos, the parish priest of St. John the Baptist Parish in Taytay, Rizal was caught by the police in an entrapment attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl in Marikina.
Suddenly, all the credibility and so-called moral ascendency of the Catholic Church in the Philippines came crashing down to hell.
And in arts and theatre parlance, we call that deus ex machina.
For the uninitiated:
It’s a Greek/Latin term which literally means “god from the machine.” The term has evolved to mean a plot device whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem is suddenly and abruptly resolved by the inspired and unexpected intervention of some new event, character, ability or object. Its function can be to resolve an otherwise irresolvable plot situation, to surprise the audience, to bring the tale to a happy ending, or act as a comedic device.
It’s as if God was watching this telenovela called “The Republic of the Philippines” and said “enough is enough”, these priests and nuns seem to have forgotten that in the Philippines there’s this thing called “Separation of the Church and State.”
And “they seem to be meddling in the affairs of state, God forbid, using my name in vain, I need to teach these priests and nuns a lesson; they have too much heaven in their minds,” God probably thought.
And so Monsignor Arnel Lagarejos shot himself in the foot (pun intended) as the police also caught him with a gun which he uses to terrorize the 13-year-old girl into submission.
Monsignor is really kinky besides being a pedophile. According to studies on sexual behavior, a man who uses a gun to dominate women thinks of the gun as an extension of his penis, which is almost always undersized, hence his preference for little girls.
Monsignor could have just picked up a regular hooker; that way the natives will just dismiss him as a horny priest and not a pedophile. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
