MANILA – Kai Sotto will once again don the Philippine colors. He is suiting up for Mighty Sports-Philippines in the 2020 Dubai International Basketball Championship in Dubai, UAE.

The 17-year-old, 7-foot-2 big man will join the Philippine team mentored by Charles Tiu as they hope to improve on their third place finish in the same tournament early this year.

“Kai is huge, literally,” Tiu said. “I think this will be a good test for him to personally see how far he’s gone playing against imports and guys who are older than him.”

Sotto, currently ranked by ESPN as a four-star recruit in the class of 2020 — 76th overall among all recruits, 11th in the big man department – spent the past year in the States to train.

Son of former PBA player Erwin Sotto, the teenager enrolled in the Atlanta-based training ground The Skill Factory and is also being hotly-recruited by top colleges, including University of Kentucky, Georgia Tech, and DePaul.

Sotto joins Juan and Javi Gomez de Liano in the squad that will tangle with Libya’s Al Ahli, Syria’s Alwathba Sports Club, the UAE Men’s National Basketball Team, and UAE’s Alittihad Alexandria Club.

The tourney will take place from Jan. 23 to Feb. 1, 2020./PN
