KALIBO, Aklan – Law enforcers and Ati-Atihan organizers are finalizing the security and traffic plans for the annual festival.
The “Mother of All Philippine Festivals” in honor of Señor Santo Niño de Kalibo will be held from Jan. 6 to 15, 2017.
“The security plan, which the police will consolidate in consultation with stakeholders, will address all security, peace and order, safety, traffic, and deployment concerns for the upcoming Ati-Atihan,” said Albert Menez, chairman of Kasafi.
Kasafi (Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc.), a volunteer organization, is handling all festival activities.
Emergency response and medical teams, firefighters, and soldiers will be detailed at the Pastrana Park and the Magsaysay Park, where most of the activities will be held.
Composite security teams will man 15 police assistance centers and conduct foot and mobile patrols on major streets 24/7.
To thwart criminals, checkpoints manned by police officers and soldiers and their auxiliary personnel will be set up in this capital town and the nearby municipalities of Banga and Numancia.
Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams, explosives and ordnance disposal/K-9 teams and the Philippine Army’s reserve command will be tapped for traffic and security management support, said Chief Inspector Terence Paul Sta. Ana, Kalibo police chief.
Around 350 officers from the regional police headquarters and municipal police stations will augment local security forces.
There will be traffic rerouting starting Jan. 9, particularly on the stretch of Mabini Street for the street dancing, religious procession and merrymaking.
