MANILA – Alfred Osei scored on a game-winning goal as Kaya Iloilo escaped with a 4-3 victory over Davao Aguilas in the 2018 Philippines Football League last night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

With the score tied at 3-all, Osei shattered the deadlock for good with a strike from way out in the 90th minute to seal the win.

With the victory, Kaya Iloilo avenged its 1-3 loss to Aguilas on Wednesday.

“That setback gave us the knowledge on how to move forward. It was a lesson for us,” said Kaya Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida. “This is an important win for us.”

Kaya Iloilo drew first blood in the match with Robert Lopez Mendy converting from a pass by Janrick Soriano in the fourth minute.

Davao was able to equalize in the 25th minute on a header by Kim Sung-min.

After missing their next few attempts, Kaya Iloilo was able to regain advantage just before the halftime break with Osei slotting in a missed free kick by his teammate.

In the second half, Kaya Iloilo extended the advantage to 3-1 with Lopez Mendy slotting the ball from the bottom right corner on a pass by Ilonggo Jovin Bedic.

Davao Aguilas made its last push with James Younghusband trimming the deficit to 2-3 on a header in the 77th minute before tying the count in the 90th minute with a low drive shot.

With the win, Kaya Iloilo has moved back to solo second place in the standings with 26 points, on eight wins, two draws and four losses.

Davao is at third with 23 points on seven wins, two draws and seven losses./PN
