KAYA Iloilo made its final home game in the 2018 Philippines Football League memorable after a 6-0 drubbing of Global Cebu on Saturday at the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz, Iloilo City.

Ilonggo Jovin Bedic fired two goals while Miguel Tanton, Robert Lopez-Mendy, Jayson Panhay, and Connor Tacagni added a conversion each for Kaya to score a follow-up to its 4-0 win last Wednesday.

It was the last home game of the Noel Marcaida-mentored squad in the tournament. Its final two matches will be on the road against Stallion Laguna (Aug. 19) and Global Cebu (Aug. 25).

“It is always great to play in front of our home fans,” said Kaya team manager Chris Greatwich. “We’ve been performing exceptionally well in the home games this season.”

“We just hope that the Ilonggo fans will continue to support us in the next tournament. The players are really determined to put on a show, put in a very good performance, and send the fans home happy,” Greatwich added.

After missing in its first few attempts, Kaya entered the scoring column in the 24th minute as Tanton curled in the ball from Bedic. This was followed by a conversion from Lopez-Mendy two minutes later for a 2-0 halftime edge.

Lopez-Mendy nearly made it 3-0 early in the second half but his shot was ruled as offside. Bedic raised the advantage in the 70th minute as he was left wide open when the Global goalkeeper left his post.

Bedic made his second goal in the match five minutes later with a hit from the left flank from a feed by Marwin Angeles. Kaya put on the finishing touches with close range hits from Panhay and Tacagni late in the match.

Kaya stayed on second place in the standings with 42 points on 13 wins, six draws and three losses while Global was still at the tail-end with five points on one win, two draw and 16 losses./PN
