MANILA – The 2018 Philippines Football League match between Kaya Iloilo and Global Cebu set Wednesday afternoon in Biñan, Laguna had been cancelled.
The face-off will be rescheduled to a later date because the Biñan Football Stadium was unplayable, the PFL said in a statement released minutes before the game.
“The match has been cancelled due to pitch condition,” the PFL said. “The status of the match shall be advised pending full report from the match officials and (host) Global Cebu.”
Had the game pushed through, Kaya would have had the chance to avenge its 3-1 defeat to the Cebuano team two weeks ago.
“There is only one team we have not defeated this season, and it’s Global Cebu,” Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida said in a pre-match news conference Tuesday.
“We really prepared for this match, and we are also complete, with the return of (suspended players) Robert Lopez Mendy and Alfred Osei,” Marcaida added.
Kaya is currently on second place in the standings with 23 points on seven wins, two draws and three losses while Global is on the tail-end with 4 points on one win, one draw and seven losses./PN
