MANILA – Kiefer Ravena proved that he was very much ready for the pros with his impressive showing in the two-day PBA Draft Combine that ended Tuesday at the Gatorade Hoops Center.
The Ilonggo guard was named the Most Valuable Player after finishing with 12 points for the A-2 Team, which defeated the Jeron Teng-led B-3 Team in the championship match of the mini-tournament.
Jason Perkins, Robbie Herndon, Christian De Chavez, Elmer Cabahug, and Lervin Flores also composed the A-2 Team under Kia Picanto head coach Chris Gavina.
“Siguro ako lumabas lang talaga iyong pagka-competitive. Ayoko talaga magpatalo,” said Ravena. “Kahit iyong mga maliliit na competitions na ganito, gusto ko magpakitang-gilas. Sinabi ko sa sarili ko na dalawang araw lang naman ito.”
The former Ateneo Blue Eagles guard also made an impression on Day 1 when he topped the vertical leap, speed and agility tests.
Ravena, a two-time MVP in the UAAP, posted the highest vertical leap at 39.5 inches while showing a speed of 2.78 seconds in the 3/4 court sprint.
At 5-foot-10, the Ilonggo cager dominated over taller players Julian Sargent (39 inches), Anton Manuel (38.5), Flores (38), Biboy Enguio and Sydney Onwubere (37.5).
Being the consensus No. 2 overall pick in the Rookie Draft this coming Sunday, Ravena said he is excited to play for NLEX Road Warriors under head coach Yeng Guiao.
“I’ve been under a fiery coach also such as Coach Jamike (Jarin),” Ravena said. “I guess that was good practice for me, but I don’t think Coach Jamike is anywhere close to how Coach Yeng is.”/PN
