MANILA – Turning 100 years old this year, the Philippine Senate vowed to work hard in bringing “essential reforms” to its existing structure.
The Senate was established in Oct.16, 1916 during the American colonial rule.
With 234 laws empowering the economy, the justice system, agriculture, workers’ welfare, health and education ratified in the last Congress, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III assured that the passionate dedication to work will continue on in the 17th Congress.
Following a proud tradition, Pimentel said he and his colleagues will ensure that laws geared towards improving the quality of life of all Filipinos are passed.
“Our success as an institution will be measured on the impact of the laws we have enacted to the lives of the people for which they were created for,” according to him.
The institution the senator from Mindanao envisions is “guided by truth, reason, justice and fairness” and comprised of “seasoned members” actively building capacities necessary for the common good.
“This milestone commemorates a rich past of meaningful legislative accomplishments with the ultimate aspiration of refining the lives of Filipino people,” Pimentel said.
The country’s 23rd senate president, Pimentel also committed to keep a vigilant eye on the challenges facing the nation./PN
