ILOILO City – The National Food Authority (NFA) has opened “Kontra Abuso” hotlines where the public can report the illegal activities of rice traders.
The “Kontra Abuso” numbers are 09278719921 (NFA central office) and 09054391235 (NFA Region 6).
Complainants may also reach NFA regional director Angel Imperial through 091758486664.
One illegal practice of traders is mixing NFA rice with commercial rice then sell this at a higher price.
NFA alone could not stop the illegal practice, said Imperial, this was why the hotlines were established.
He lamented that despite reports about the illegal mixing practice, none has come out to stand as witness.
“All sectors should report to us what they know. Our ‘Kontra Abuso’ hotline numbers are open 24/7,” said Imperial.
He also reminded NFA rice retailers that their accreditation is a privilege that must not be abused or misused.
NFA could “immediately suspend the allocation” of erring rice traders, said Imperial. “We really mean business in curbing corruption.” (PNA/PN)
