BACOLOD City – La Carlota City has become the third local government unit (LGU) in Negros Occidental to offer incentives for individuals vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), following the LGUs of Escalante City and Toboso town.
The city government is offering rice incentives – five kilos for the first dose and another five for the second dose – for senior citizens who will get the jab, according to Mayor Rex Jalandoon.
This would drum up vaccine interest among residents, especially the elderly, Jalandoon said.
La Carlota City has a low vaccination turnout among senior citizens – only at about 50 percent, according to the mayor.
As of Sept. 6, La Carlota City already vaccinated at least 28 percent of its target population.
Escalante City earlier introduced an incentive for their vaccinated senior citizens – one can of a premium brand of corned beef as well as three kilos of rice.
Toboso, meanwhile, introduced an incentive called “VACC 2 SCHOOL” program for teachers in the town, wherein every school will receive P2,000 for each of their respective teachers who will get vaccinated./PN
