ILOILO City – Ilonggo sprinter Kian Labar cemented his status as one of the Philippines’ rising track stars after claiming the silver medal in the boys’ 400-meter run of the 14th ASEAN School Games in Brunei Darussalam.
Labar, 17, from Dingle, Iloilo, stopped the clock at 48.50 seconds, finishing behind Thailand’s bet who won gold in 47.93 seconds. The strong finish marked another international achievement for the athlete, who earlier set a national record in the Batang Pinoy.
The Iloilo runner unleashed a powerful final kick to secure second place and boost Team Philippines’ athletics medal haul, which ultimately carried the country to the overall championship in track and field with 8 golds, 8 silvers, and 3 bronzes.
Labar’s school, Dingle National High School, praised its standout sprinter in a congratulatory post on social media.
“Congratulations to our Dinahisian pride, Kian Labar, for securing Silver in the 400M Run with a time record of 48.50 seconds at the 14th ASEAN School Games 2025 in Brunei Darussalam,” the school said.
“Your strength, discipline, and unwavering determination have once again brought honor to Dingle National High School and to the entire Philippines. You continue to prove that Dinahisians are truly geared to achieve and can shine on the international stage. We are beyond proud of you, Kian,” it added.
