MANILA – The College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers cruised to a straight set win over the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18, in the NCAA Season 92 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday night at the San Juan Arena.
Season 91 Finals MVP Ranya Musa led the way with 22 points, including 19 attacks, for the defending champion Lady Blazers, which cruised to its fourth straight win in as many outings.
Jeanette Panaga chipped in 11 markers for the Lady Blazers, which dominated the Lady Bombers in attacks (38-22), in blocks (7-1) and in service aces (11-6).
The Lady Blazers made such quick work of the Lady Bombers that head coach Michael Cariño was able to rest his starters and lean on his reserve players, led by Chelsea Umali, in the third set.
“Mas naging consistent ‘yung team ko (against the Lady Bombers), lalo na sa skills na wala sa amin during our previous games,” said Carino. “Maganda ‘yung pinakita ng bawa’t isa at maganda rin ‘yung effort.”
Shola Alvarez top-scored with 11 points, while Rosalie Pepito chipped in eight markers for the Lady Bombers, which had its two-game winning run snapped to slide down to 2-2.
In the other match, the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas captured its first victory following a 25-15, 25-17, 25-18 sweep over the struggling Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals.
Jamela Suyat and Lourdes Clemente finished with 11 points apiece for the Lady Altas, which surged to a 1-2 win-loss slate. The Lady Generals, on the other hand, remained win-less in four outings./PN
