MANILA – National University Lady Bulldogs completed its three-peat in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference after its 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16 win against Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in Game 2 of the finals on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.
Conference MVP Jaja Santiago led the way with 22 points while Jorelle Singh and Risa Sato had 11 and 10, respectively, for NU. Jasmine Nabor was named Finals MVP for tallying 45 excellent sets for the team.
It was the third straight Collegiate Conference championship of Lady Bulldogs, which also capped off its campaign in the tournament with an unblemished 9-0 win-loss record.
It was a seesaw battle for both teams in the first set. Lady Tamaraws held on to a 16-14 lead before Lady Bulldogs countered to take a 19-16 edge and pulled away for good with hits from Santiago and Sato.
NU jumped to an 11-5 start in the second on his by Santiago and Singh. The lead stretched 18-8 before FEU responded to come to within 17-21. Consecutive points by Santiago let Lady Bulldogs claim the set.
After losing the third NU seemed headed to an easy win after building a 19-12 lead but FEU clawed its way back 15-21. Hits by Santiago, Sato and Aiko Urdas ended the match in favor of Lady Bulldogs.
Jeanette Villareal and Czarina Carandang finished with 10 points apiece for Lady Tamaraws, which played without Negrense Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza, who represented FEU in the UAAP women’s beach volleyball.
