MANILA – Far Eastern University Tamaraws snapped a two-game slide with a 96-70 domination over University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball yesterday at the San Juan Arena.
Ateneo Blue Eagles, on the other hand, extended its victory streak with a 71-59 win over Adamson University Falcons on Saturday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Tamaraws set the tone early behind Jasper Parker, Hubert Cani, Ron Dennison, and Richard Escoto to turn a slim 12-6 lead to a 29-16 advantage at the end of the period.
FEU went on to pull away in the second quarter. A barrage of triples from Kenneth Tuffin, Dennison and Ron Ramirez led Tamaraws to build its largest lead 89-54 on a layup by Joe Trinidad.
Tuffin top-scored with 14 points, including three 3-point baskets, while Tolentino and Parker added 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Tamaraws, which improved to s 5-4 win-loss record. Tigers remained winless (0-9).
On Saturday, after a 31-24 lead at the half, Blue Eagles pulled away in the third quarter on a barrage of 3-pointers from Thirdy Ravena, Chibueze Ikeh and Isaac Go for a 51-34 lead.
Falcons managed to trim the deficit 41-54 but Blue Eagles raised its advantage further in the final quarter behind Jolo Mendoza, Aaron Black and Ikeh, and built its largest lead 71-50 on a triple by Jaypee Andrade.
Ravena led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds while Vince Tolentino and Go had 8 markers apiece for Blue Eagles, which remained on top with 8-0./PN
