MANILA – Arellano University Lady Chiefs defeated the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20, in the NCAA Season 95 Women’s Volleyball at the San Juan Arena.

With Lady Chiefs’ star player Regine Arocha rested, Carla Donato and Necole Ebuen stepped up to lead the offensive artillery of the defending champion and to secure a guaranteed playoff for a semifinals twice-to-beat incentive with a 7-1 card.

Donato unloaded 12 points, 11 coming from attacks, while Ebuen added 11 markers built on 10 hits that mostly came at the critical juncture of the match where the Lady Generals threatened to fight back.

Meanwhile, Nicole Sasuman, the one who took over the duty of Arocha, finished with seven points. Sarah Verutiao also did her fair share of the job by tossing18 excellent sets laced with five markers for Arellano.

The Lady Chiefs easily dominated the first two sets of the match until the Lady Generals showed some fight in the decisive third set by establishing a commanding 20-16 lead.

However, Arellano leaned on the crucial points of Ebuen to tie the score at 20-all, and then Sarah Verutiao caught fire from the service area that was later finished by Donato.

Cathrine Almazan was the lone bright spot with a near triple-double performance of 14 points, 10 digs and seven receptions for the Lady Generals to end the season with a 1-8 slate./PN
