ILOILO City – After finishing dead last in the just-concluded UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament, the Adamson University Lady Falcons has begun its build-up for the upcoming season early.
The Lady Falcons will have its first phase of rebuilding by conducting a tryout at the Ateneo de Iloilo Gymnasium at Barangay San Rafael from 9 a.m, to 12 noon on Monday, May 15.
According to Ilonggo sportsman Ruding Villaruz, the tryout is to be presided by assistant coach Cherry Rose Macatangay with Lady Falcons star Jessica “Jema” Galanza also expected to be in attendance.
“The tryout is open to everybody,” Villaruz told Panay News. “We expect Ilongga spikers, and those from other nearby provinces, to attend since it will be a big opportunity for them to be discovered and to play in Manila.”
“I expect the Lady Falcons to see the players they needed for their team since there are many talented volleyball players here. I am inviting them to take this rare opportunity to show their talents,” he added.
Villaruz added that the three-hour tryout will be held just right after the championship match of the 2017 Isuzu 17 and under Girls Volleyball League on Sunday at the said venue.
The Lady Falcons struggled heavily during the previous UAAP season under American head coach Airess Padda where they only managed to win a single game – against the University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 – in 14 matches.
The Lady Falcons is expected to maintain the core of its lineup led by outside hitter Galanza, middle blocker Mary Joy Dacoron, hitter Bernadette Flora, and libero Jellie Tempiatura./PN
