MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers tallied its second straight win in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball with a 25-21, 25-22, 26-24 sweep of University of the Philippines Lady Maroons at the San Juan Arena.

Kim Dy and Ernestine Tiamzon led the way with 13 points apiece while Desiree Cheng added 10 markers for Lady Spikers (2-0) to tie with National University Lady Bulldogs on top of the standings.

Michelle Cobb also had an impressive offensive showing in the Saturday night game with 10 points, including seven service aces, to go along with 32 excellent sets for the two-time defending champion.

“Medyo aggressive ang UP sa floor defense and blocking. Hindi sila madaling mapantayan,” said Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus.

“Sinabi ko sa kanila, kailangang tiyaga and hindi puro power. Talagang kailangan ng maturity,” de Jesus said.

In fact, Lady Maroons was a point away 24-19 from forcing a fourth set when the calm and composed Lady Spikers netted the match’s last 5 points, including Cobb’s three consecutive service aces to close out the intense encounter.

In the other match, Adamson University Lady Falcons outdueled Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12 to forge a four-way tie (1-1).

Chiara Permentilla and Jema Galanza delivered the dagger hits for Lady Falcons to knock down Lady Tamaraws in the enthralling game that featured long rallies and powerful hits.

Galanza finished with triple-double 26 points, 15 digs and 17 excellent receptions while Permentilla chipped in 11 points for the Lady Falcons, which nailed only one win last year./PN
